In March 2012, Merimbula celebrated 100 years since it was gazetted as a town. Some of the Centenary events occurring at the Old School Museum, included local school children singing the Centenary anthem composed by local musician Paul Dion, the burying of a time capsule and a talk given by personality Dick Smith.
