The Society opened an exhibition commemorating the 40th anniversary of the first Merimbula Oyster Festival at 2 pm on Easter Saturday 20 April at the Museum. The exhibition also features aspects of the local oyster farming industry.
A new local history book Merv the World’s Largest Oyster by local author and historian Gary W. Selman was launched during the afternoon. The book gives an account of the tortuous history of Merv the Merimbula Oyster Festival Monument and the Oyster Festivals it commemorates.
Several of those who attended spoke to the history of the festival and to Gary’s book. Afternoon tea was enjoyed by all.
